Gotochi Kitty

Oh man, look at these! I want them all! Hello Kitty as a piece of banana, squid, purple fox, pineapple, sea urchin, and more hilarity. They're exclusive to different parts of Japan, I wonder if they sell any around here. I saw a site with ones from San Francisco that have her dressed as a crab and sea lion. Japan has the best ideas ever.

If this one is a turtle riding a manatee, I need it like NOW.
Joyeux Noël

I got a little purple Christmas tree, in all its cheezy tacky glory! It even has lights. I wish I had a bunch of hilarious Japanese cellphone/keychain charms to decorate it with. Imagine a tree covered with things like this; oh the joy! I'd keep it up year-round.

I need to pick out my calendar for next year. Wow, 2010. The future is now...

Edit:

Purpley tree.

Glow little tree, glow!

So very lazy

Last night I had to try hard to keep myself from flying out of bed at 2:30 am to make a painting that I thought of. Now I don't feel like making anything. Blarg.

I want a necklace made of rose gold. But everything I'm finding online is full of jewels and is an empty outline of a heart or something. I want a solid pendant, because it looks so smooth and pink and pretty like that. Gold is so expensive, that if I decide to spend the money on it, I want to be sure to really like it.

Anything can happen on Halloween

A quick lunch-time post. I wanted to be sure to say Happy Halloween! Have fun, be safe, watch out for ghosts. Here's something I've been "preparing" for a while. I had hoped it would have been done by now, but it's so tiny that it's really hard to clean. It can fit on a nickel, not sure the exact species. I think I broke it while pulling off a piece of icky stuff, oops :(!

Na na na na na na na na, bat skullllll!!!

Quickest 2-minute sketch of Pinki the bilby bobbing for a donut. I've seen this on old cartoons, do people really do it? Looks hard. She's stolen my costume too! Yikes, no planning on anatomy and messy coloring!

Mmmm, donut...

Posting while wearing a pith helmet, huzzah!
Brush work looks so cool, I want to get better at it. I painted a Visayan warty pig. My plan seems to draw the weirdest rarest animals so my website will be the first hit when someone searches for them, ha ha! Warty warty pig!

I found my long-lost waterbrush (it doesn't have its cap though) after losing the replacement one I bought.
Like Twitter, but longer and even more boring!

Tried to do a bit more music collection organization in iTunes. I can't decide on a genre for some of my stuff. Also, artists give me trouble on some things. Certain songs from movies or TV shows, especially animated, list the character singing as the artist. Others list the actor's/voice actor's name, and still others have some general thing like "Disney" or "The Simpsons". I've also noticed that some older albums' artwork still seems timeless and awesome, and some are so dated. It's the fonts mostly.

It was really hot today, like 95 or so. My bag of miniature peanut butter cups melted in the car and now I'm picking foil out of tiny smashed wads of chocolate and peanut butter.

They have leopard print everything in the world, except for socks apparently. Most likely because that is the product I'm looking for.

I felt like drawing. I found an old issue of Ranger Rick from 1984 in my closet with a cool article about animals painted on people's arms and hands, and cute pictures of musk oxen. I drew some musk oxen. I still feel like drawing; anybody got anything they want drawn?

Halloween is coming! Yay!

Insomnia, where would my internet posting be without you? Anyway, I decided to challenge myself to do a little project for Banned Books Week (which started today! Go and read some, you know you want to be bad!) Over here we have the first of what will be four teensy illustrations for a censored story. I really wanted to make this cartoonier but it seemed to stay my default kinda sorta realistic style with giant head and short limbs. Aw well, I'll have to work on that another time. Everything is lopsided and wonky because I can't stop painting while lying on my stomach on my bed with a cat walking around spilling water and putting their tail in my face.

Tune in tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday for the other paintings.

Now I'm cookin' with candy....

I should start a separate journal of reviews of bizarre Japanese candy! I have a huge weakness for weird snack treats from the Nijiya Market. I'll buy something because of a cute box (which is like 95% of Japanese stuff!) or a funny name or strange concept. This time, I bought something called "Popin' Cookin'". The box had cute tiny foods and things on it. Well, inside were 4 cubes that looked like pieces of gum, one silver packet of something and one sprinkle packet. Also, a tiny wooden rolling pin. Yup, I had to make my own candy!

The squares were really squishy and kind of sticky. They come in pink, blue, white and yellow. I made a sushi and then a bilby with a pineapple. Here it it, on the top of a Pringles can for size comparison. I was kind of fun molding it, but a lot of work.

The candy itself was strange. The flavor was like pink bubble gum, slightly different for each color, and the texture was like eating gum too. It kind of dissolved after a while. I didn't use the colorful sprinkles, but the silver pack had little crunchy colored things, like broken pieces of Nerds candy. I don't think I'll be buying this one again. Not like my chocolate tree stumps :).

Boring

Why am I so fatigued lately? I haven't felt like doing anything. Oh well, I'm ready to join the world again.

Uh oh, I wore white shoes today, after Labor Day! I enjoy watching fashion-related TV shows and reading fashion magazines and articles online, but I don't do much in real life to be fashionable. Another shoe I'm coveting: some kind of peep-toe flat with leopard print. I'm a hypocrite because I wear leather shoes but I don't want an animal print on calf or pony hair.

I found these Donald Duck pineapple-apricot-papaya boxes, they're so fun! They have comics on the back.

Happy Birthday Michael

This video is good to watch today. Michael (and his brothers) looks so happy; they're acting like dorks but they know it so they're having fun with it. Magical shiny star shirt!

<lj-embed id="4" />

It's hot.

Spirals and bows

I made a little painting for my blog header. How I love drawing animals with hooves and crazy horns.

Step right up and see the two-headed antelope!

Some blogs have neat illustrated links on their sides. That would be fun, if I had more links. Or maybe it would look cluttered.

I like these shoes, but they don't have my size in the grape ones, which I want more than the brown.

I'm up too late...

I saw the documentary Handmade Nation the other night. It was inspiring, I really want a button machine now! And the soundtrack is fun, with a saw as one of the instruments. Hmm, not much else to say for now. Good night!

Biggest Sailingest Lemur

I cruised a few art blogs last night, and found some examples of cute gouache paintings that looked like children's book illustrations. I can't pull that flat stylized look off, but I was inspired to make a small painting anyway!

A naval Indri in a tree! Hmmm, it reminds me of Donald Duck too.
