100 Paintings in a Month!

I decided to challenge myself to do 100 tiny gouache paintings of different mammals eating and drinking. Each one will be "cute-ified" and wearing some item of clothing.

I have the first five up: strawberry milk elephant, corn beaver, unicorn lolly echidna, blueberry muffin pika, and french bread aardvark. The pictures are 1-2 inches high. I enhanced the black background because at the magnified size, you could see lots of distracting dots of different shades. I think of what mammal I want to do, then just start right in with the painting, with no sketch. Usually I come up with the food in the middle of the picture. There's no rhyme or reason to what animal is eating/drinking what.

I'm doing fine now, but I may have to start asking for animal and food suggestions!

Feral Stereotype

A page from my little sketchbook in purple pencil. I revisited the wild girl I painted once long ago. I wish I could live in a jungle and find cool creatures and climb trees and not wear shoes.

Happy Rodent Meteorologist Day

The groundhog saw his shadow, six more weeks of dumb winter! I want some new art to put on my walls. I don't know if I should go with prints, or spend some money on original art that I like. Nothing in my room matches so I don't have any sense of decor that I'd have to follow. Decisions, decisions.

Ahoy ahoy!

Hello! Do you like pictures of animals with funny names? Then mosey on this-a way. Making a set of buttons with these little guys on them would be what I'd do if I had a button maker.

I'm watching "The Pirates of Penzance" for free on Hulu. You should too!

Yay, I'm back! The computer broke again, like it always does, but now it works. Hello, 2010.

I posted up my final sketch from 2009. Go and see the grebe-osaurs! Here's to a better year from now on.

Twas the night before the night before Christmas,
And all through the abode,
Were the fine smells and tastes
Of sweet cephalopodes... )

Nothing says Christmas like a painting of a dodo.

Gotochi Kitty

Oh man, look at these! I want them all! Hello Kitty as a piece of banana, squid, purple fox, pineapple, sea urchin, and more hilarity. They're exclusive to different parts of Japan, I wonder if they sell any around here. I saw a site with ones from San Francisco that have her dressed as a crab and sea lion. Japan has the best ideas ever.

If this one is a turtle riding a manatee, I need it like NOW. Seriously.

Purple Primates

A page of monkey sketches that I did at night. I was too lazy to find a sharpener so they're even scratchier than usual since my pencil was dull.

I got a little purple Christmas tree, in all its cheezy tacky glory! It even has lights. I wish I had a bunch of hilarious Japanese cellphone/keychain charms to decorate it with. Imagine a tree covered with things like this; oh the joy! I'd keep it up year-round.

I need to pick out my calendar for next year. Wow, 2010. The future is now...

Edit:Now with photos! )

So very lazy

Mad
Last night I had to try hard to keep myself from flying out of bed at 2:30 am to make a painting that I thought of. Now I don't feel like making anything. Blarg.

I want a necklace made of rose gold. But everything I'm finding online is full of jewels and is an empty outline of a heart or something. I want a solid pendant, because it looks so smooth and pink and pretty like that. Gold is so expensive, that if I decide to spend the money on it, I want to be sure to really like it.

Help me, someone. I've resorted to disturbing pictures of Pee-Wee Herman painted while sitting in bed.

I can't get enough of the veggie chips from Trader Joe's. Mm mm, good!

Going in & out of style

Why do I keep having relapses of sickness? I'll feel OK, then the next day I'm just all blah.

I feel the need to draw the Beatles. I kind of did, and still feel as though I should do more. Rock on, foxy George, one time for me!

Now to try to sleep.

Everything's a unicorn

This is what happens when I feel the need to make art but have no ideas. Carnivorous horned bunny and overly cute environ-friends. Unicorns are fun.

Those of you in close proximity to a Yogurtland, they have limited edition Tokidoki spoons(!!!) and I would like to collect all four. Can anyone grab me some of them? And then take me to Yogurtland? <3 They have new Christmas flavors that look nummy.

Sgt. Pepper's is coming out for Beatles Rock Band. Must have Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!

Crazy looking art of bears and birds and other stuff. Not exciting or different, but they're new.

Not asleep yet, again

Bookish
Does anyone know a good site for finding out what album a song is from originally? That's not wikipedia? I have some songs that I wanted where the only CD I could find them on are like "Let's Get This Funky Party Started with Mickey and Friends" and I don't want to have that title soiling my iPod ;P. I've also started geeking out over Danny Elfman soundtracks again. I want more...he's done so many now that I don't have >:[.

I also want to draw more. Maybe a collaboration? Eh, friends, eh (eyebrows waggling)?

Anything can happen on Halloween

A quick lunch-time post. I wanted to be sure to say Happy Halloween! Have fun, be safe, watch out for ghosts. Here's something I've been "preparing" for a while. I had hoped it would have been done by now, but it's so tiny that it's really hard to clean. It can fit on a nickel, not sure the exact species. I think I broke it while pulling off a piece of icky stuff, oops :(!

Na na na na na na na na, bat skullllll!!!

Quickest 2-minute sketch of Pinki the bilby bobbing for a donut. I've seen this on old cartoons, do people really do it? Looks hard. She's stolen my costume too! Yikes, no planning on anatomy and messy coloring!

Mmmm, donut...

Posting while wearing a pith helmet, huzzah! Is anyone else dressed up?

Pig with warts that's not a warthog

Brush work looks so cool, I want to get better at it. I painted a Visayan warty pig. My plan seems to draw the weirdest rarest animals so my website will be the first hit when someone searches for them, ha ha! Warty warty pig!

I found my long-lost waterbrush (it doesn't have its cap though) after losing the replacement one I bought. I need to chain these things to the wall or something. I can't find my good set of travel watercolors now. Hate losing stuff!
